Planning the Future...Preserving the Past

Tax Collection
(609) 652-3700 ext 234  ▪  Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Tax Collector: Chris Johansen  |  Deputy Tax Collector: Joan Truman

The Tax Collector is charged with the receipt and collection of all taxes, assessments and sewer fees both current and delinquent. All funds are remitted to the Tax Collection Department.

It is important to note that the municipal taxes are only a portion of a Galloway Township property taxpayer's obligation. Three other separate governmental entities, Atlantic County government, Galloway Township Local Public School District, and the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District develop and adopt their own budgets to be funded by taxes.

However, New Jersey's fiscal laws require the municipal government of Galloway Township to serve as a billing and collection agency for all four separate entities.

Regional Efficiency Aid Program

The Township of Galloway diligently pursues all types of aid and grants that will benefit the residents of Galloway Township by reducing property taxes.

The annual Apportionment of Taxes is certified by the County Tax Board and is made available to the Municipalities in June.

The 2013 Apportionment of Taxes is as follows:

Municipal Taxes
County Taxes

Regional School Taxes
$ 16,582,281.00
Total Taxes to Be Raised

If a home and property were assessed at $100,000.00, a property owner would pay $2,205 in total taxes.   From that $2,205 the following amounts are required to finance the services of:

Municipal Government
$ 480
County Government
$ 415
Local School District
$ 840
Regional School District
$ 470

Real property taxes are due on Feb 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1. The Township Council passed a resolution, which allows for a ten-calendar day grace period. Any real property tax payments received after the 10th calendar day of the month in which the taxes are due will be considered late and interest will be charged. The interest rate charged for late payment of taxes is 8% on the first $1,500.00 and 18% on the amount over $1,500.00. A year-end penalty will be charged at 6% on all delinquent balances (including interest) in excess of $10,000 not received by December 31. Please read the back of the tax bill for valuable information that may answer many of your questions.

Sewer user fees are charged to residents who are connected to the sewer system. Payment is due on March 20th  and September 20th. There is also a ten-calendar day grace period for sewer user fees. Any payment received after the 10-day grace period of the month in which the sewer fees are due will be considered late and interest will be charged. The interest rate charged for late payments of sewer user fees is 8% on the first $1,500.00 and 18% on the amount over $1,500.00.

New Jersey Law (NJS 54:5 et seq) requires all prior year delinquent taxes and municipal charges be sold at an annual Tax Sale.  The Township of Galloway holds an Accelerated Tax in December of each year for all taxes, sewer and other municipal charges delinquent after November 1st the current year.   Affected property owners, mortgage companies and all interested parties will be notified by mail. To avoid publication of a property owner's name and address, all  delinquent municipal charges and all accrued interest and penalties must be received.   If you have more than one delinquent charge (property taxes, sewer charges) a separate check must be received for each.

When mailing payments, please send your check with the appropriate quarter payment stub. Please make checks payable to: Galloway Township 300 E. Jimmie Leeds Road Galloway NJ 08205.  Your canceled check will be your receipt.  Should you desire a receipted bill, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  If you pay in person, bring in your entire bill, we will receipt your bill and hand it back to you.

The Township also accepts online payments for Tax and Sewer bills.
